Today, we carried out our annual Thomas and Thomas Beach Clean at Newgale Beach. We were truly blessed with the beautiful weather. The gentle breeze and warm sun made it a rather nice escape from the office!
A huge thank you to Linda, Mike, Sally, Penny, Peter, Darren L, Rebecca and Darrens Dad (Rev. Thomas) for your time and effort to attend the beach clean, it is greatly appreciated by us all.
Before we got started, we gathered for an energy boost with plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, several biscuits and not forgetting the delicious Welsh cakes kindly brought by Rebecca – Thank you!
This year, it was good to report that there was definitely less litter. The offshore breeze may have something to do with this, but it was good to see the inlet water running so clearly from the streams and very little tourism waste at this stage.
Would you believe it? Our largest items of litter found this year was dog waste in disposal bags! I can’t say this was the most pleasant items of litter to find and we were mystified as to why people go to the trouble of picking up after their dogs only to then discard the whole bag further down the beach.
We gathered several other bags of litter once again – although we were a long way off our 10 bag record.
Thank you again to everyone who took part, you are all truly legends. We look forward to next year’s T&T beach clean.
