On Saturday the 11th of May, I shall attempt to run, crawl and leap my way around the ‘Preseli Beast’ Mountain Marathon in aid of local Charity – PATCH.
The training is all done now. The superman costume is hung up in the wardrobe and I am just trying to fight off a horrible cold!
Training for this event has involved around 30 miles a week of (mainly off road) hill running. The combined ascent of the Beast is the equivalent to running up Snowdon 1 ½ times. The downhill and boggy bits all add to the drag on your legs, so I have been really focusing on leg strength.
There are timed cut off points, so walking this thing is not an option.
I have to say that the training has been really focused this time, having visited Tracy and her lovely team at PATCH at the outset, I have been really motivated to do this.
I set out to raise £2,000 to help people who have no food or basic provisions in the county of Pembrokeshire. Thomas and Thomas gave £500 and our clients have also generously helped. Thank you as well to Rathbones, Eden Tree and Schroders who have also all donated to PATCH.
My current total stands just over £1,400 including all the donations and gift aid – so I am still someway short of target.
If you feel you could spare a few pounds to help this truly valuable cause – please read more here: https://www.thomasandthomasfinance.co.uk/latest-news/its-back-to-the-beast-for-darren/

Or please feel free to post me a cheque to PATCH and I shall forward it on to them for you.
I shall let you know if I get around the whole thing! Thank you so much to all of our clients who have sponsored me – I promise to think of you as I battle my way around the course.
With my best wishes as ever.
