We gathered at Newgale Beach for our annual Thomas and Thomas Beach clean today and were greeted by a blast of cold northerly wind.
The sand was whipping up off the beach and the rain clouds seemed to be rushing towards us, but as I battled with the council car park machine, our beach clean volunteers arrived.
Tel and Beth greeted them with cakes, chocolates, tea and coffee. Then – armed with bin bags – our team spread out across the rocks and sand to gather up the little bits and pieces we are so used to seeing on our shoreline.
Fishing tackle, boat rope, beer cans, flip flops and plastic bottles were the usual suspects. The frankly annoying thing was the amount of dog waste left in plastic bags – I mean what is the point of that!!
Nonetheless, we found less rubbish than usual which is encouraging.
We experienced lots of different weather – but most of all we had a great time whilst making a positive difference.
