Well what a success our Thomas and Thomas 2020 Beach Clean finally was.
Despite lockdowns and weather, we finally gathered at Newgale today to scour the sand and stones for rubbish.
Katy had brilliantly organised a list of all those who were down to attend. We expected up to sixteen but we weren’t really sure how many would arrive because of the weather. We set up in the carpark with our hot chocolate and haribos and waited for the army to turn up. We were amazed that we had a full team.
A steady stream of clients arrived, all clad in weatherproof gear and gloves. We armed them with rubble sacks and sweets and we headed off ‘forensic style’ to try and find rubbish.
Ten sacks and two hours later, we had many mismatched flip flops and surf shoes, an old towel, some knickers(!) several face masks and copious amounts of bucket handles, plastic and fishing gear.
The morning flew by, treating our client cleaning army to lush rays of sun and scudding clouds that kissed the calm sea waters and made us all want to stay just a little longer for one more hot chocolate.
All in all, it was a brilliant morning and great therapy for loneliness during these times – whilst trying to do some good.
Unfortunately, I still have a lot of haribo’s left over, so the rest of today may be a bit of a blur! Yipppeeee!
A hearty thank you to everyone who could be a part of the Thomas and Thomas beach cleaning team 2020. Next year we think we will have a competition for the most rubbish collected! J
Kind regards as ever.
